Overview

Welcome to our 7th grade English class. I am very excited about the upcoming year and hope that everyone will reach all of their goals. I look forward to learning with you this year.

The highest standards of behavior are expected from students both in personal behavior and in dedication to academic studies. I expect students to be motivated; to strive to do the best work possible; to be tolerant and respectful; and to behave in a friendly, cooperative, and responsible manner.

Classroom Expectations

Arrive to class on time. Be seated and ready to work when the bell rings.

Be prepared. Bring your fully charged iPad, your marble composition notebook, pens, a folder and any required books to class every day.

Be respectful. Every person has the right to learn in a safe and positive classroom environment. Raise your hand and wait your turn when you would like to speak. Listen quietly and carefully when someone else is speaking. Remember to treat others as you would like to be treated.

Participate actively. Ask questions. Share your opinions. Help your classmates learn something new that will help them inside and outside of school. Attendance and active classroom participation are required.

Be responsible. Everyone must do all the work assigned. Homework is given almost every night. Your homework should be handed in on time, and be neatly, completely, and thoughtfully done. If you are absent, you are responsible to make up the work you missed. If you need help, it is your responsibility to schedule an appointment with me on Extra Help Days (Wednesday) or another time that is convenient for both of us.

YOU have the power to make the right choices to succeed in this class.

Procedures

Arrive to class on time. Be seated and ready to work by the time the bell rings.

When you arrive, copy down the homework in your Homework App. Then complete the Do-Now.

Always have your marble notebook and have a pen ready.  Have your iPad charged and ready to be used.

Grades

Grades will be based on your performance on classroom and homework assignments, group and individual projects, outside reading assignments, tests, quizzes, essays, journals, presentations and classroom participation.

English Test Day is Thursday (alternate day is Monday).
We will have review sheets and study sessions before tests. Quizzes will always be announced. In accordance with school policy, you will not receive credit for any work completed in a dishonest manner.

Supplies

You will need a folder that holds 8 ½” x 11” college-ruled paper.  You will also need blue or black ink pens, pencils, highlighters, a marble notebook, and Post-Its.  Please bring your iPad charged and ready to be used in class.  You will be using a Homework App in place of a plan book.  You might find it helpful to have a stylus, earbuds and a portable power charger for your iPad.

This year we will continue integrating iPads into the classroom.  It is YOUR responsibility to take care of the iPad and use it in a respectful, productive manner inside and outside the classroom.  Please refer to the iPad contract signed by students and parents for more information.  Throughout the year we will have many discussions and presentations on Digital Citizenship.
